In another gruesome murder case, police in central Kashmir have arrested a man for allegedly killing a young woman and then cutting her body into several pieces before dumping them at multiple locations in Budgam district.
Initial reports indicate that the 30-year-old woman, who was pursuing her bachelor's degree, had been missing since March 7. Police took Shabir Ahmad, allegedly a carpenter, into custody on March 8 based on the woman's phone calls, but he confessed to the crime on Saturday, police said.
Ahmad, 45, was taken into police custody after her family filed a missing complaint. Ahmad is married and lives in Ompora area of Budgam district. While the police are yet to reveal the motive behind the murder, the woman's relatives claimed that the man had earlier proposed to her family, but the woman rejected his proposal.
“The woman has been missing from her home for the past four days. The accused disclosed that he murdered the woman and cut her body into pieces and disposed of them at various places, including the Ompora and Sebden railway bridge, where the victim's head and other body parts were found on Saturday evening… Arrested, all the body parts were recovered from the places including her head from his home and further investigation is underway,” police told.
The woman's family claimed that Ahmad had visited her house for tiling work. “I think the man killed her for his lust,” said the woman's cousin. He said that after the victim rejected his marriage proposal, Ahmad said he lost respect.
The incident is a repeat of the Shraddha Walkar murder case in Delhi, where the 27-year-old lady was strangled by her resident partner Aaftab Amin Poonawala. He then cut her body into 35 pieces and stored them in a 300-litre fridge before disposing of the remains in a forest in Delhi.
In a similar incident, Sahil Gehlot allegedly killed his secretly married wife Nikki Yadav and stuffed her body in a refrigerator.
