A 28-year-old youth was seriously injured when two bike-borne criminals fired at him at Kumharpara under Sonari thana area around 11 pm on Friday.
The victim, identified as Deepak Kumar Singh, is a resident of Bairjhabra locality in Sonari and was returning home on foot when the attack took place.
The assailants fired four shots, but when the victim got to safety, he suffered only two shots, one to the shoulder and the other to the right leg. After being injured, the victim fell down but somehow managed to inform his family members through his mobile phone, which led to them rushing to the spot.
He was immediately taken to the main Tata Hospital. The victim works in a private company as a driver.
City SP, K Vijay Shankar, who spoke to Deepak at the hospital, said the victim could not identify the assailants. The police are trying to identify the perpetrators by collecting camera footage from the crime scene.
