At least nine policemen, including an SHO, sustained injuries after they were attacked by a group of miscreants in Sheikhpura village on Thursday evening.
According to sources, the Korma police chased wanted criminal Dhaneshar Dhandi from Murarpur village after receiving information that he along with an accomplice was on the way to commit the crime. On seeing the police, he moved to his house on Sadar Maidan under the Sheikhpura Sadar Police Station area.
Sources said that after the police arrested him with a country pistol, a group of villagers attacked the policemen with stones, injuring Korma police station constable Nitish Kumar, ASI Niranjan Kumar, two women and four male constables and the driver.
They freed the criminals from police custody and fled before reinforcements from nearby police stations arrived.
Sheikhpura SP Kartikey Sharma said that an FIR will be lodged against the miscreants after investigation.
