Mamata calls urgent meeting at Nabanna tomorrow, key administrative officials to attend
In Dakshin Matikunda village, located in the Islampur police station area of Uttar Dinajpur district, a group of individuals forcefully entered a residence and proceeded to bomb and shoot at the occupants, resulting in the death of a civic volunteer named Shakib Akhtar. There has been infighting within the Trinamool Congress party regarding the incident, with local leaders blaming each other for the attack.
The Trinamool Pradhan of Matikunda Gram Panchayat number one in Islampur Block has been accused of orchestrating the attack, while Trinamool MLA from Islampur, Abdul Karim Chowdhary, has pointed fingers at Trinamool District President Kanhaiya Lal Aggarwal.
According to the victim's family, the Panchayat Pradhan and his entourage arrived at Shakib's house late Wednesday night and proceeded to intimidate him. The group then reportedly threw bombs and fired shots at Shakib, resulting in his death. Shakib was rushed to the Islampur Upazila Hospital but was declared dead upon arrival by doctors.
Upon hearing the news of Shakib's death, Islampur MLA Abdul Karim Chowdhary visited the hospital and strongly condemned the incident. He also expressed his dissatisfaction with the Police Superintendent of Islampur, questioning why he was discussing reconciliation rather than taking action against the culprits.
The MLA, who has been elected 11 times, threatened to resign from his position if the Trinamool supremo did not take action against Kanhaiya Lal Aggarwal within 48 hours. He also vowed to run as an independent candidate against the Trinamool Congress if necessary. As of now, Kanhaiya Lal Aggarwal has not responded to the allegations against him.
