Unlicensed cancer, diabetes medicine worth 6.6 crores seized in Kolkata
Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram claimed that the bulk of the over Rs 12,000 crore electoral bonds sold so far were donated to the BJP anonymously by corporates, claiming that the corporate donation was a way of thanking the government for numerous "favours".
The former Union Finance Minister also wondered why companies were so eager to contribute through the "non-transparent electoral bond mechanism".
“Over Rs 12,000 crore worth of electoral bonds have been sold so far. Most of this amount was bought by companies and donated anonymously to the BJP,” Chidambaram said in a series of tweets on Monday night. Businesses don't donate through electoral bonds because they love democracy, he said.
"Corporate donation is a way to express our gratitude to the government for the numerous favors they have received in the past years," said the Congress leader. “It's a neat arrangement. Favors are done quietly. Rewards are accepted in secret. Long live our anonymous democracy,” he said.
