A man has been arrested in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district for allegedly killing his wife, dismembering her body and dumping the pieces in the water tank of their house, police said.
The crime took place in Uslapur area, which falls under Sakri police station limits, a police officer said in a report. The mutilated and decomposed body of the woman was recovered by the police from a water tank in a house in Ulsapur, the officer said, adding that the deceased woman was identified as Sati Sahu.
The police officer said the body would be around one to two months old and more details could be available after the post-mortem. The officer further said that the husband named Pavan Singh Thakur, the investigation found, may have killed the woman as he suspected her of infidelity and later dumped her body in a tank after cutting it into several pieces.
The officer added that the crime came to light when Thakur's neighbors alerted the police about a foul smell emanating from the house, after which the Sakri police rushed to the spot to conduct an investigation and the decomposed body was recovered. Police officers and experts from forensic laboratories went to the scene and carried out an investigation at the scene of the crime.
The police sent the body for post-mortem and arrested Thakur. The constable added that the police have registered a case in connection with the incident and further investigation is underway.
