A minor boy died in a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder explosion in Bengaluru on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Mahesh, 13, a resident of Guddadahalli near Hebbal.
According to police, the incident took place in front of an "illegal" bottle shop in Guddahalli's Gulbarga Colony on Sunday morning.
Around 10:00 AM, Mahesh, a Class 6 student at a government school in the city, was standing and playing near a shop where bottles were being filled. In a split second, the cylinder near the boy exploded. Although he was rushed to the hospital, Mahesh was declared brought dead.
According to resports, one Liyakat was refilling the bottle at an illegal shop allegedly belonging to one Devraj. Liyakat has since absconded and a case has been registered at the Hebbal police station. The police suspect that a gas leak led to the explosion of the bottle. After the explosion, the inhabitants of the colony were in a brief moment of panic. Police later said no one else was injured in the blast.
Mahesh was the son of Mallappa and Sarasvati who hailed from Yadgir district. The couple has two more children.
