Kolkata metro to be extended till Hooghly's Chuchura? Here's what Railway minister says
The transportation of Trinamool leader Anubrata Mondal, who is currently lodged in Asansol Central Jail after his arrest in a cattle smuggling case, has become a source of contention between the Asansol police and jail management, and the central government's Enforcement Directorate (ED).
A day before, the Calcutta High Court had given permission to transport Mondal to Delhi. However, according to the rules, the Asansol Police Commissionerate should have provided security on Sunday for Mondal's transportation to Delhi, but this did not happen.
The jail management said that they cannot send him until the police provide security, but the police are not providing any answers. The ED then wrote a letter to the jail management to inquire about the delay, but it was later revealed that the police had refused to provide security.
As per the court's rules, Mondal has to be transported to Kolkata first, where he would undergo a medical examination at a central hospital before being transported to Delhi.
The jail management, in response to the ED's letter, said that if the ED takes responsibility for the security, then Mondal can be transported. However, the central government argued that the responsibility for security lies with the state administration.
The delay in transportation has caused concern for both the ED and the jail management. They plan to file a petition in the special CBI court on Monday to address the situation.
