On Sunday, the district unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a protest at Hashmi Chowk in Siliguri, alleging that the investigating agencies had wrongfully arrested Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister, Manish Sisodia, during interrogation regarding an alleged liquor scam in Delhi. The protesters demanded his release and a judicial inquiry into the matter.
Amitabh Debnath, an AAP activist, claimed that Sisodia's arrest was unconstitutional and opposed it. AAP workers from various districts of North and South Bengal joined the protest in Siliguri against the arrest.
Sisodia was named as accused number one in the CBI First Information Report and has been in the agency's custody for questioning until March 6. He was arrested last Sunday in connection with the alleged liquor scam in Delhi.
During a court appearance on Friday, Sisodia informed the judge that he was being subjected to "mental harassment" as he was repeatedly asked the same questions for eight to nine hours. The court extended his custody by two days.
