On December 4, a schoolgirl was molested by a man while traveling on a bus in the Hatiara area of Kolkata. The victim was on the 30C bus route when Pramod Jaiswal, the accused, sat next to her and molested her multiple times during the journey. The girl, aware of the situation, recorded the incident on her mobile phone. After the incident, she approached the Eco Park police station to file a formal complaint, providing the recorded evidence of the assault.
Based on the victim’s complaint and the evidence, Eco Park police began their investigation. On the night of December 9, Jaiswal was arrested by the police in the Hatiara area. He was then brought before Barasat court on December 10, where he was remanded in custody. The police confirmed that they are continuing their investigation into the case.
The authorities have stated that the investigation is ongoing, and further action will be taken as required. Police are reviewing public transportation security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. They have also emphasized the importance of reporting such incidents promptly. Jaiswal’s arrest has raised awareness of the need for increased vigilance and protection for passengers, especially schoolchildren, on public transport in Kolkata.
