Mamata Banerjee celebrates Christmas with message of unity, attends midnight mass in Kolkata
The trial of the RG Kar case has faced significant delays, drawing ire from medical professionals and activists. Allegations of a conspiracy between central and state investigative agencies to derail the investigation have been raised, further fueling public discontent.
On Tuesday afternoon, members of the Medical Service Center, Service Doctor Forum, and Nurses Unity gathered near Central Park Metro Station to voice their concerns. Dr. Biplob Chanda, a prominent speaker at the protest, accused the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) report of revealing inconsistencies, suggesting that the alleged murder and rape at RG Kar Hospital could not have been the work of a single individual.
Despite these findings, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has yet to file a charge sheet even after four months. Dr. Chanda alleged that both central and state agencies were complicit in delaying justice and obscuring the truth. The protest soon escalated, with participants attempting to march toward the CBI office.
The demonstration intensified as protesters tried to breach police barricades at the CGO Complex gate, resulting in a scuffle with law enforcement. Symbolically, the protesters hung a lock on the CGO Complex gate, which police later removed, prompting further agitation. The Bidhannagar police were deployed in large numbers, including senior officers, to manage the situation.
