Humayun Kabir who hailed Abhishek and criticized Firhad, apologises after CM Mamata’s reprimand

Humayun Kabir, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA from Bharatpur, apologized publicly after facing a reprimand from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Kabir’s earlier remarks about party leadership and administrative issues led to disciplinary action, including a reduction in his security cover.

Kabir had suggested that Abhishek Banerjee, TMC’s All India General Secretary, should be appointed as West Bengal’s Home Minister. This statement created a stir within the party. Additionally, Kabir criticized senior minister Firhad Hakim, claiming that people in his constituency faced difficulties in reaching local authorities.

In response to these developments, Mamata Banerjee convened a meeting with all TMC MLAs. During the meeting, Banerjee emphasized that party leadership decisions would be handled by her and Subrata Bakshi. She urged all party members to maintain discipline and avoid public comments that could harm the party’s image.

Kabir later admitted that he had erred in speaking publicly on party matters. “I should not have made those comments outside the party. I have apologized,” he stated. He affirmed his respect for Mamata Banerjee’s leadership and committed to following party protocols in the future.

To address communication issues and internal grievances, the party introduced a new WhatsApp group for TMC MLAs. This group, monitored by senior leader Aroop Biswas, will serve as a platform for raising concerns and sharing information directly with the leadership. Kabir confirmed that future discussions would take place within this channel.
