Man dies, 6 family members hospitalized in Birbhum after eating turtle meat
Acting on a tip-off, the Siliguri unit of the West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) carried out a raid late Thursday night near Himghar Chowpathi in the Unnisbisa area under the Ghoksadanga police station. During the operation, STF officers recovered 130 kg of ganja hidden in a 12-wheeler truck and arrested four individuals.
The accused, identified as Sanju Kumar (32), Kamal Singh Chauhan (38), Jitendra Singh (38), and Rahul Kashyap (25), hail from Farrukhabad and Mainpuri districts in Uttar Pradesh. The truck, bearing a Rajasthan registration number, was stopped and searched, leading to the recovery of the narcotics. According to officials, the seized ganja has an estimated market value of ₹30 lakh.
STF Superintendent of Police Indrajit Basu stated that the accused were attempting to smuggle the contraband from Cooch Behar to Uttar Pradesh. Preliminary investigations suggest that this smuggling ring has been active for an extended period.
A case has been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Ghoksadanga police station. Officials confirmed that the STF’s swift action has significantly affected the gang’s operations.
